Your First Choice For Herniated Discs

Herniated, ruptured, slipped or bulging discs are all terms used for the same painful condition. When a disc becomes ruptured, the gel-like substance that surrounds the disc slips out of place and can become pinched by the spine or press against the nerves in the spinal column. Herniated discs can quickly escalate to become completely debilitating, and medical care is always necessary.

Most standard medical treatments, such as pain medications and ice packs, have little effect on treating this problem. However, seeing one of our chiropractors for herniated disc spinal alignment can provide much needed pain relief.

Upon entering our practice, we want you to feel like you’re in good hands. To offer you the best possible care, we designed our modern, high energy practice to be both advanced and relaxing.

Atlas Total Health Chiropractic understands how devastating a herniated disc can be to your health. The pain is hard to manage, and basic functions like walking or bending, or even lifting your leg to walk up a step can become excruciating. Pain management techniques may provide some minimal relief, but in the long run, the condition itself is not treated, so the pain continues.

By aligning the spine correctly, patients will begin to experience true relief to their herniated disc pain. When the spine is aligned, the bulging disc can slip back into place and begin the healing process. The physical pain relief is noticeable almost immediately, and with continued care, the herniated disc can heal.

Knowing the signs of a herniated disc will allow you to treat the condition sooner. Some of the most common signs of a herniated disc include:

  • Pain and swelling in your back
  • Pain that radiates into your buttocks, legs, and feet
  • Burning sensations in your back or extremities
  • Pain in your neck or shoulder area
  • Tingling sensation in your legs or arms that does not go away
  • Muscle weakness or muscle spasms in your back

Since some of these symptoms can also be attributed to other medical conditions, your Georgia or Tennessee chiropractor for a herniated disc will give you a complete medical evaluation, conduct tests, and x-rays and go through your medical history to rule out any other potential medical issues that could be contributing to your back pain.

Herniated discs can occur for many reasons. The most common reason for a herniated disc to occur is lifting something incorrectly or that was too heavy. However, other reasons for this type of injury to occur include:

  • Accident or trauma to the body or back
  • Bone spur growth on spine punctures disc
  • Genetic predisposition
  • Weak muscles in the back allow slippage
  • Obesity
  • Wear and tear from many years of manual labor
  • Degeneration from aging
